Holiday with Zoe :)

On the holidays Zoe and I, along with my family, spent 3 days in Yogyakarta. We travelled by train overnight and arrived at 3.30am, Zoe and I were so tired that we couldnt wait to get to the hotel. Our hotel, The Pyrenees, was very luxurious and conveniently situated right beside Jalan Malioboro, so we were able to shop every evening along the street and buy many gifts for friends and family. Unfortunately, Jalan Malioboro is very busy all the time and each store sells similar products to the stores surrounding them so we didnt have a lot of choice in terms of souvenirs.
We hired a driver to take us from place to place and each morning we woke up early to visit various tourist attractions such as Candi Borobudur, Candi Prambanan, Kraton, Gunung Kaliurang and Parang Tritis. We enjoyed Yogyakarta specialties like gudeg, pecel and susu Kaliurang. The weather in Yogyakarta is very hot and we often carried an umbrella to sheild us from the sun so that we didn't burn. I didn't enjoy the hot weather there and always felt so much better when we came back to our hotel room which was nice and air conditioned.
I think that Yogyakarta is a great city, however personally I prefer Bandung for its cool weather and great shopping. Also, there are more options for food and it seems to taste better here from my experience. With that in mind, I still believe Yogyakarta is a fantastic holiday destination and would love to return in the future to visit the places that we didn't have time to see whilst there these holidays.
